Just a warning to everyone the "Safety Camera" vans are not not only "doing" you for speeding but also for the following
"when the registration mark fails to conform with the regulations" Mine had a slight spacing issue XX 51XXX instead of XX51 XXX I had not changed the letters or modified it in any way apart from the minor spacing issue - it can't have been a safety issue as they were able to very easily trace me. I was photographed by a mobile (motorbike) camera in Bedale and then the next day in Cleethorpes - less than 24 hours later. Result a £100.00 fine from both North Yorkshire Poilice and Humberside Police. Obviousdly had I been stopped the first time I would have known about the clamp down and would have chnaged them. This is easy money for them - just when we all need as much as we have to survive. Take care. |

Don't see what the problem is.
Number plates were spaced illegally and a fine was issued. Job Done. You might be able to argue against the 2 fines however.... |

I looked into that but for the sake of £100.00 I 've got better things to do than argue with a magistrate who will take the same view as you.
My main objection is that I have had the same plates on 3 vehicles for over 9 years - done approx 300,000 miles and never had an issue. It was a warning to others. |

I wonder if you could argue that it was only one offence and therefore you should only pay a single fine? I've often wondered if the same could be argued if you drove past two speed cameras without slowing down, as you would have been caught twice for a single speeding offence.
That being said, the regs haven't changed nor has the penalty, so you can't really complain if you choose to ignore them. Edit - beaten to it on both sentiments! |

From experience
 I can tell you that two cameras (one static, one plod in a car) counts as two offences...
However, twice observing the same numberplate during such a tiny period, without a warning in between, is surely a single offence  Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

I have a plate for example H3 LLO
And it was Spaced H3LLO It's been on approx 7 cars over 12 years, never had an issue anywhere even MOT's.... Until one Police man stopped me and said its illegal (which I knew it was) Changed it, and now I've had no issues at all ever 
Simple really. I don't want the hassle. We know its wrong 'Hands up' 
More things to worry about these days. |

Just to add....
I would try any get out of the second fine as you could prove you were waiting on a new set of plates? with it being so soon? Again is it worth the pain.... I guess for you if this plate is on a Defender and reads MR 51NGS say on the defender spaced legally...on the rear its going to look odd... MR51 NGS Its what it is though, bigger things going on |

Sorry to say but it is two offences, it may have been better practice on the first occasion for someone to advise you to get it put right but as it was a static camera check that option was not available.
As you were aware of the space issue you cannot complain even though you got away with it for years. When I worked for a living it was one of my pet hates along with those who put blue bulbs in the headlights that an even on a smooth road at night could give the impression that the lights were flashing from white to blue, they are now a fail on a M.O.T.. We had one joker that had both, he thought that he could get away with it, it took a M.O.T. station two hours to process the V.D.R.S. forms at £20.00 a time and the poor desk clerk 3 hours to record the driving documents . Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to  us off.
