Unfortunately at the time I didn’t actually measure how much it opened, it appeared to open its full range of motion, a good 10mm by eye.

A correctly functioning stat is crucial. Of the Mahle ones I have only two from 8 opened at correct temp and opened fully. Cheers

I’ll whip the stat out again and have a measure up as soon as I can.
Looks like Marcus at MWmachines is working on a thermostat to help with this problem so I may look into that at some stage. One last question and I’ll leave you alone, Davis Craig recommend drilling two holes to help circulation, did you do this or do you think it’s not necessary if the stat is (should be) open when the pump switches on? |

Mine is connected is such a way it can only come on when the stat is open so, no I didn't drill any holes.
Marcus and I have been discussing stats alot. Cheers James 110 2010 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

Thanks, will have a look ![]() Can you elaborate on the "not so great" finish? Is it fit or longevity you're not so impressed with? Defender 130 HCPU Td5 MY2000 |

Been a while since I updated and now seemed a good time.
Currently sat just outside Glasgow for a few days. We are here competing in a multi discipline sport with camping. So lots of kit to take, four of us and camping. 130 was the logical choice to travel with. 460mile trip up, fully loaded 130, people, camp kit, sport kit and food and water plus 2.6t trailer on the back. We stopped for fuel twice with a splash and dash but all in 8hour comfortable trip. Only 16miles that weren't motorway. M57 was so relaxing to drive over the distance, appreciated the quietness and smoothness too. Heat was manageable, we eased up once in Scotland on the longer climbs kept temps to 95 deg at 55mph whislt climbing the scottish hills, which are long!. Aux water pump helping shift the heat with fluid transfer. Circa 19mpg for trip up which is pretty much the same as my 2.4 110 towing similar weights wise. Had two issues so far. Apparently the shower system is too hot initially! Nice problem to have Puncture picked up on campsite. LoF Abs servo adaptor fitted today, will see how that goes with extra servo help, initial impression is not a massive difference to std non abs one fitted. It locked wheels before and still does. Cheers

Mine has been 99.9% great over the summer. 980mile return trip to Scotland with 2.8t trailer on the back in 25deg ambient saw it sit at 88/90 deg.
the 0.1% i need to work on was towing, 1 T or so on a hot day, 32deg, probably hottest we have had and temp rose to 98 at constant 60mph over 150mile trip. so 10deg hotter than soctland trip towing 1.8t less than scotland trip. EWP and fans working as they should ambient just too high. Its was questioned on m57 heating thread about getting rid of underbonnet hot air and thats now my next stage for development. i have changed front grill to get more air in, now to find exit for it. Side wing vents with fan as required to extract hot air. Bonnet holes are a possible but am hoping not to have to do it. other things i am looking at is the cooling mod to the rear cylinders and replacing the water/oil cooler for the engine and fittng an air/oil cooler. thought is keeping the hot oil away from coolant.
