Powder Coating SVX Alloys ?
Has anyone any experience of powder coating their silver alloys. I want to paint mine gloss black.
Be grateful if anyone has any do’s / don’ts or recommendations of companies. I live West Sussex / Surrey.

Ooh, I'll be keeping an eye on this - I was going to ask exactly the same question.

What I'd really like to do is get mine 'powder coated' in black - but retaining the two-tone. Keeping the grey DEFENDER spoke and maybe the hub.

The only thing that has stopped me is that the quotes I've got just to refurb the wheels come to about £20 less than I seem to be able to buy a set of sawtooths.

Having had 3 sets of prevoius wheels refinished. (2 SAAB, 1 Nissaan Patrol) (I used to devlop power coating systems for industry as a formulation chemist)

Paint finish is a high gloss and smoother with a much better finish, thin depth, requires good prep and base coats before final colour and clear coats - Down side - paint chips on the rear wheels from stones flicked by the frount ones, but easier to repair any damage to the coating.

Powder coat - normally harder wearing, with a thicker finish, hides many sins (corrosion, pitting ect.) but a much lower finish quality - not as glossy or as smooth, any damage to the coating is difficult to repair.

If you want to keep the 2 tone (Diamond finish) combining paint and alloy the process is more complicated - in the Dorset/Wiltshire region the only company I know (but have not used) is http://www.marquisealloys.co.uk/

Good Man Thumbs Up Ive cocked up and stupidly won an auction on some twisted wheels, wife gone nuts as we agreed to paint the originals as you have, so trying to offload the Twisted.

Swine

Thanks for the pics. I'm sold. They're really nice..! Had found a few pics, but none really showed that the detail was still there.

John

Sorry I hi-jacked your thread - but I am looking to do exactly the same thing! Ironically I'm about 10 miles away from 'your' twisted wheels in Trowlbridge (as we call it...). I've also made the same agreement with my better half - keep the original LR wheels - just debating still whether to refurb as is, or powder coat. Swine's photos have helped toward resolution!
