Ireland 1989 Defender 110 200 Tdi CSW Portofino Red
1989 110 CSW 200tdi
Hi all,

I finally purchased my first Land Rover. It’s a 110 CSW. It’s been on the wish list for years but finally bit the bullet. I was looking for a 110 CSW for a while, as they are rather rare in Ireland especially ones over 30 years (classic tax and insurance).

It’s been fitted with a 200tdi at some point. In fairness it’s a nice job. The PO, thought it was like that from factory, unless it’s some special preproduction which I doubt.

Anyway, it is a bit of a rolling resto, well tidy up.

The chassis has had some work, namely a rear crossmember but seems to be in reasonable shape. Some rust starting on the top corners of the bulkhead so I may get the mig out once the weather takes up a bit.

4 maybe 5 new doors and a respray on the list too. I’m not sure to keep it red or change it. It won’t be a nut and bolt resto so I think if I spotted red in other places like under the bonnet, it would just annoy me. I was going to give the modular wheels a quick respray with some black but I’m starting to think white might look better. Any thoughts?

This is a great forum and I’m sure I’ll have loads more questions as I get stuck into this. 1989 Land Rover 110 CSW

welcome.

I had one just the same as yours but a 1990 H plate, still on this forum with its new owner. Your spare wheel cover comes from an indi just 15 miles from my home Laughing a bit closer than you.

Enjoy the new truck, you will find lots of info on this forum Thumbs Up 2010 XS USW

Welcome to the Forum and nice 110 csw. Hope you didn't get stung with new NOx tax when registering it !

I'd Keep the original colour set of white wolf rims with white roof and you have a classic look than is timeless Thumbs Up

Here my old 200tdi below, long gone now sadly Sad

Thanks Lads. It’s great to find an active forum. There is loads of great information and ideas on here.

It lived a good bit of it’s life in Essex so probably frequented in that garage from time to time. You might have even seen it driving around.

Nidge, first VRT inspection was the 30th of December so NOx/Vat/CO2/duties were not applicable. They made a mistake on their side so it’s only just on Irish plates now. Just the vintage rate of €200 to pay. It would have cost more than the Landy if it was less that 30 years so wouldn’t have made sense. I was waiting to get it sorted before doing any work on it, just in case.

Yea the more I think of it the more I’m coming to the same conclusion of keeping the red/white theme. Your old one looks well. 1989 Land Rover 110 CSW

That looks great.

For some years following the introduction of the 200tdi engine, LR offered a kit to retrofit them into older models. If your engine bay looks 'factory'; then it's possible that it had one of those kits installed. Darren

Cheers. I didn’t realise that. I assumed someone took the lot from a crashed defender. It makes sense now. I’ve never driven a 2.5 TD but from what I hear the 200tdi is a big step up. A previous owner had it in mainland Europe, and probably quite a bit from all the euro change i found. The 200tdi is probably a lot nicer for long trips.

The Sony radio in it stopped working a few days after I bought it so I replaced it with a “new” Sony radio. Found this behind the radio/clock.

Cheers lads.

Yea I’d say it’s been there a while. The last owner or more probably didn’t even know it was there.

JOW, it’s the tread on your 110 that is really making me consider the red/white theme. Yours looks great. 1989 Land Rover 110 CSW

Not a major update but had it in for its first nct over the weekend. I was hoping to transfer over the remaining 8 months mot to nct but brexit put a stop to that.

Passed first time with no advisories and with a 2 year ticket as it’s over 30 years old.

I also thought my sunroof was leaking but turns out it was just heavy condensation. I’m planning to insulate the roof at some point as well. Debating to replace the roof with a non sunroof one to avoid the condensation.

I’ve ordered a few parts for it so hopefully a few more updates over the next couple of weeks. 1989 Land Rover 110 CSW

Well done on passing the MOT! Thumbs Up

Having changed from black rims to white rims I keep looking at others thinking I actually might go back to black.... one day. My mind changes with the wind. Embarassed James

Cheers,

I got black paint for them before I started this thread, then changed my mind to white, now I wondering if I should go with black. I even have the black paint but can use if for something else anyway. Its such a hard decision. Big Cry 1989 Land Rover 110 CSW

My trouble is I'm currently obcessed with Brooklyn Coachworks and they always fit black rims and look beautiful. I used to think white roof needs white rims and sometimes think black rims get lost in the tyre, but constantly changing my mind. If it helps...

Black modulars(?) as purchased...
