Netherlands 2012 Defender 130 Puma 2.2 HCPU Buckingham Blue
Think oilpump broken.. again...
Hi

When my Defender 130 2.2 MY12 was 3 years old at 106.000 km. The oilpump broke and a new engine under waranty was fitted.

Now at 212.300km I think I face the same problem again.

I am just towed away.

Anyone else had this problem twice ?

Is there a way to clean everything or is the engine scrap now.

Regards

Quirin

ive read somewhere that they changed the oil pump from 2011 and its prone to failing as the pump vains are some kind of plastic. The info ive found out is the earlier ones are much more reliable and fit the later engines.

Mine's a MY2012, too. The oil pump has been replaced by a modified one. This has been done due to a recall from JLR in 2014 or so...

I think you'll find the earlier, (and later replacement) pumps are geared pumps but the change in 2011 entailed fitting a vane pump? I believe also this can cause issues with oil starvation after an oil change as the pump will not self prime once drained.

To answer the OP question.. it all depends how bad the damage is. I am currently rebuilding my 2.4 and am surprised how reasonable the prices of replacement bolts, gaskets, bearings etc are.

If the engine seized I would suggest it could be scrap?? Nige
