Ancestry dna kits
Hi all, I got one of these kits for crimbo,
Basically spit in a tube and send it off ,
Anyhow, the results came back in about 4 weeks,

It gave me a breakdown of country of origin ( 84 % English )
But it also matches up cousins of different distances, ie 2nd 3rd 4rh cousin

, and i had one who I recognized immediately, and now done a bit of digging and found out about a whole section of my past that had been “blown over” probably to protect me from the truth in my younger years,

I’m pleased to say I wasn’t involved or affected by what happened,, I was just 100% suprised

I’ve stopped digging now as I feel I know enough and nothing can be changed or discussed as all my family has passed now,

But the main point in writing this is to say if you were ever thinking of doing it it’s certainly updated me on past life’s

Thanks for reading folks

My wife did hers last year and discovered that her grandfather on her mum's side, er, wasn't!

However, she then managed to find out who her grandfather actually was, and now has a collection of family that without the DNA, she simply couldn't have found through archival material as it simply doesn't exist.

It's certainly a fascinating thing to try out.

My mum has been doing this for a few years now. They've discovered a few cousins they didn;t know existed, and have a good relationship with them.

Found out last week I'm related to miriam margolyes! quite closely. Parents have had a few chats with her. They dug out an old photo of my great grandfather and I am a spitting image of him (poor bastrd! Laughing )

Make sure your Will forms are up to date.

Not trying to be funny but if there is no Will then this will open the doors to ‘other’ family members contesting what’s left.

My dad had a mother and daughter turn up saying that they were related to X and wanted to get to know their ‘family’ more.

After a couple of visits they were never seen or heard of again.

I am just naturally suspicious, just be careful Thumbs Up
