Did you bother with the pilot re-learn? I didn't and all seems fine

Kmac - Aplogies I missed your post for some time.
No I didn't, I left it and it's absolutely fine and driving better than ever. I took the old VCV apart today, there does appear to be some scoring on there as has been found before. It isn't particularly deep but as you can see the gloss / shine of the barrel is missing on one side, I would imagine nearest the ground where the weight would be pressed most against the aperture. I would not be surprised if it didn't make the valve 'sticky' and cause the sporadic issues that I had before. Here is a video, you can just about see although it isn't great quality. (This as when I took it apart today - 76k miles approx.) Diesel$ Live$ Matter. β½οΈπ’οΈπ¨βπ§π§°βοΈ RED, WHITE & BOOST! π¬π§ |

Thatβs just what mine was like. And I suspect, as you say, the wear prevents smoothe fine movement and the rough running. Itβs possible using a diesel lubricity enhancer like Millers Ecomax might prolong itβs life. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Yes, I run that all the time.
And I reckon if I hadnβt ran that it would have been worse earlier. Although I had only ran the Millers after about 40k to now. All is good now though with the new one so Iβm pleased with that, not a bad job to do just tedious to get at really as usual with the Puma. No doubt where the job cost me just shy of Β£60 LR would have likely charged well over quadruple that. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. β½οΈπ’οΈπ¨βπ§π§°βοΈ RED, WHITE & BOOST! π¬π§ |

Little update on this a few months later, sheβs running great. Smoother, all power is back! A lot of it! π
No hesitation and very smooth idle. MPG is improved too, it took a little while to notice but it defiantly is improved. No pilot learn completed, I would imagine it has self learnt by now but either way no problem at all. I still run the Millers diesel Ecomax permanently too. Thought others may appreciate the info. The symptoms I had was a hunting idle sporadically in winter. She felt like she needing pushing aka more accelerator and slightly down on power and responsiveness and a slight increase in fuel use. Difficult to tell over time but it was there, hesitation on acceleration. All of this is gone now. So a job I am pleased with. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. β½οΈπ’οΈπ¨βπ§π§°βοΈ RED, WHITE & BOOST! π¬π§ |
