I assume you are talking about off road driving and competition use.

If you regularly drive a Defender TD5 like that on the road it’s going to do about 15mpg and you’ll likely need a new transmission before long.

I don't think it makes a difference if it is on or off-road as the engine produces the power to break things. Whistle

But I still have the original engine, gearbox, transfer box. Diffs are Detroit in the rear and true trac in the front. I broke some halfshafts and C.V. joints but they are now all replaced by Aschcroft parts. So they should last.

I broke a diesel line and the diesel pump is 2 different occasions on the road, but I don't think that has to do with high rev's Mr. Green Roel

I'd heavily suggest it does. Despite power output, the thing that really breaks cars is traction, if you try and apply a huge amount of torque to all wheels while they're on a grippy road with evenly distributed forces, thats a lot more sympathetic to the car than applying the same torque to a vehicle with wheels slipping and gripping and snatching away at the terrain. Thats what kills shafts, shock loads the entire drive line.

Either way im happy with my TD5 110 on 180bhp.

Yup. Ive broken two CVs/shafts in Spain due to having extreme traction and being heavy footed. I had the traction needed to creep up the hill but stupidly decided to boot it a little. Que broken CV Embarassed

As opposed to a similar hill but sandy, cant crawl have to give it some power but no damage. Same for mud Instagram @defender_ventures

at 50 seconds: so easy is it to break a CV with a little steering. Roel
