Just got it back from the workshop... works beautifully now, nice & cool air, and the temperature selector dial works as it should. No more dragon breath!

Problem was with a faulty thermostat which didn't close fully, thus allowing warm water to continue circulating where the thermostat should have blocked it off... hoping this all makes some sense Smile
They replaced the thermostat.

So it's apparently a more "normal" car now Very Happy

defender75, it's stornoway grey (or some local variant), came out really nice. I left the fenders & front grill in their original unpainted black plastic form though.

Thanks for all the help chaps!

Thumbs Up

Had a similar problem on a 200 tdi except in my case the thermostat was stuck open and it was difficult to get any heat from the heater on a cold day.I remember buying a replacement and changing it in the yard of the independent from whom I bought it-tools etc supplied from the workshop. When I was hunched over the engine getting it changed someone landed in with a well used 90 whose wiper parking switch had packed up. Ended up changing that just before heading off to lunch with the lads who were busy with something extremely awkward at the back of a Discovery engine-new type. As it was a simple job to change the parking switch they asked me to do it.Usually end up pretty dirty when I come home from there. Highly educational and always good "craic" 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Glad you got it fixed. So with the CKD do you get to pick custom colors? I thought you couldnt get a CKD anymore.
