What's wrong is that the guy in the Toyota is an idiot. Darren

I spent Christmas 2012 on Fraser Island on our honeymoon and visited this exact spot. It’s a great place to spend a few hours watching the locals heading to the north of the island for Christmas holidays.
Toyota rules over there, but as always- tyres and locking diffs are the winner on any vehicle.
Traction control doesn’t stand a chance.
The nivaras we saw got stuck the most, as they seemed to be more nose heavy than most and overheated front diffs when they were buried in the sand trying to get out.
That defender made it look easy hough, but wouldn’t want to be without decent AC in that heat for long.
Good times!

Having driven there a few times it is all about low tyre pressure.
Seen lots of low profile tyres on 22” rims that work well when let down to 15psi.
If you have standard profile tyres then I run mine at about 10psi on sand like that.

Revving like that doesn’t actually help, just keep the tyres turning and it’s surprising how far you can crawl, lots of spinning just digs you deeper into it. Hold my beer and watch this!

Which one? Confused

It was good to see what a difference a bit of momentum made on the uphill and if you lost it, it wasn't coming back.
