Stainless Steel Fixings
I am contemplating changing the fixings on my black chequer plate to stainless steel.

A few questions:

Has anyone got any pics of black chequer plate with stainless steel fixings?

Is there any issue with using stainless steel through the main aluminium body work?

Any tips on where to buy the fixings? Proud owner 110 Utility XS

Your bodywork isn't aluminium but the chequerplate is. Aluminium and steel due to dissimilar metal properties will rot like bu99ery unless a suitable jointing compound is considered. You can also seal the nut or rivnut heads with caps or sealant. Either way you'll end up with aluminium and steel next to each other. I replaced the fixings on my steering guard which was made of aluminium with marine grade stainless fixings, I used heatshrink on the shanks of the bolts and PTFE washers on the heads to isolate the two metals from each other. A little time and good preparation is the key. Thumbs Up

A marine chandlers or your nearest Eurofasteners is your best shot!!!! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

I got all my stainless fixings from a2stainless. Mark gives 10% discount to forum members.

As already mentioned, the trick is to isolate the two metals. Genuine LR cheq uerplate has a thin foam gasket on the underside. All drilled holes should be painted, otherwise the corrosion eats into the aluminium, beneath the paint surface and causes localised bubbling of the paint...

How's about using aluminium rivnuts into the wingtop, then stainless bolts encased in Duralac chromate paste to hold the chequer plate? And if not already fitted, a foam gasket between chequer plate and wing top.

PS: Duralac Anti Corrosive Jointing Compound - Duralac is a highly effective jointing compound which prevents electrolytic corrosion between dissimilar metals. Ideal for mast fittings, winches, aerials, batteries, bolts, screws, rivets etc
