It all starts with the London - Singapore (First Overland) 1955. Oxford and Cambridge university students aimed to drive to Singapore. The books a good read.

This is the return journey using one of the original Series Land Rovers. The wrap on the new Defender is the Sky Blue and Navy Blue of the two university’s.

That Defender is startlingly hideous with that colour scheme, it really brings out the ugliness inherent in the design of the vehicle. Shocked

Does the JLR marketing department have absolutely NO shame putting that hideous Discfender in the same Postcode, let alone same photo, as that absolute little beauty? Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

"A thorn between two roses", to twist around the old saying Laughing

They can say what they like about approach angles, but looking at the photo with all three face on, I know which vehicle I'd want to off-road in. That new front end looks very vulnerable to damage when tackling anything other than a sleeping policeman.

Has there been a bit of photoshopping going on in those photos? The new one looks quite small between the two Series cars Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

I wondered that. It doesn’t match with the impression you get looking at the other thread with a new one in front of a 90. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I don't think that photo has been altered, perspective and the colour scheme of the Def probably make it look smaller.

Track width of the two S1's is around 14 paving blocks, where as the Def is 19 blocks.
So that's around 35% wider.

The light upper body colour makes it difficult to see the front corners of the bonnet, but it's certainly higher than the wings on the S1, and rises further back.
Overall height looks similar, but is the Def parked with the air suspension in access mode?

The last lot probably carried hammers and various bits to keep them going... I can imagine the new expedition will have numerous support vehicles... This car is too important to fail... Can you imagine if they toasted an engine... LR will pamper this thing and then we'll no doubt hear that it's a thing to behold...

Laughing It doesn't matter how bad it is, It can always get worse...

The new Defender didn’t take part, it was only there to meet the Series 1 (SNX 891) that made the return journey.
