Our front end Friday this week is a rebuild that we did for a VIP customer… this is used around an estate for shooting & transporting guests to and from activities - look at that Diamond Stitched Leather from our bespoke upholsterer! This was a fully rebuilt, bespoke order! https://t.co/v6JfyVOUis https://twitter.com/JohnBrown4x4/status/1202875546880880641?s=20

It’s an old FFR, probably used for some wing commander on a run way somewhere with his radio op, it’s probably filled with port.

It was a service fitment, what is missing is the 'dexion' racking behind which separates the front and back and used to hold radio kit SLR gun rack etc etc. 2010 XS USW

It could have been for the FFR, the sides on the original would have had meccano racking along its sides and all kinds of Radio equipment would have been strapped in there, along with the batteries there wouldn’t have been a great deal of room for much else so as you say it may well be the default position for the Jerry Can, was looking at the back of the uprights to see if there were any weapons mounts, baring in mind the era of vehicle, weapons would have been SLR which pre dates my service by a decade so, with 2 of them in there at that length it’d be cramped. DEFENDER XS CSW 08 TONGA GREEN

I bet that was popular ~ lugging a full can in and out of there and if either of the caps were loose whilst driving along...

Yes rifle clips. With the Dixon rack it does not look out of place. 2010 XS USW

I know in days of old (pre Land Rover) the airborne jeeps were heavily modified for glider use and this includes putting the spare fuel can between the seats. Considering both versions you are sat on x gallons of fuel a few extras don’t make much difference. Rolling with laughter 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html
