2.4 will not start
Hello lads my 2.4 will not start

She is basic spec with no key fobs or central locking

The problem came out of the blue - just very difficult to start suddenly

Got her going last night with some easy start and she performs perfectly once she starts.

However today even easy start failed to work - after letting the glow plugs cycle complete she almost fires up and then try again immediately after there is nothing.

If you leave her sit for a few minutes and try again the same result - almost fires and then cranks over endlessly after.

New battery too - please help any assistance would be great

Are you getting fuel to the infectors.? Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.

I tried to check that by disconnecting the little pipe that feeds the rail at the back towards the bulkhead and am only getting a little dribble of diesel when cranking her over

This is the pipe I’m referring to - when turning her over only a dribble comes from it

Trying to upload a pic but for some reason it’s not working - it’s the pipe at the back of the common rail

Diesel system looks fine getting plenty at the rail

Getting a P068A fault code and have checked all the relays under the seat a dozen times

Going to try cleaning crank sensor now see if it’s stopping her running

Took out crank sensor tonight and cleaned it - wasn’t really dirty anyway, made no difference

When the computer was connected today the live data showed she would turn over at around 600rpm sometimes and nearly get running and if you try and start her again immediately after it only barely reaches 300.

Leading me to believe the crank sensor might be faulty so I’m going to try put a new one in tomorrow

I’m not sure how exactly you know the correct depth to insert the new sensor, but will try a new one to see if it makes any difference.

Crank sensor part number 6740819
Cam sensor part number 1358343

Both will be replaced tomorrow as they are reasonably small cost and easy replacement

In the meantime I gave the ignition wiring a check to make sure nothing is loose

I would have liked to get into the ecu mounted on the bulkhead inside the engine bay just to clean and check the connections but it looks caged inside some sort of box with shear bolts

If changing the two sensors doesn’t do anything that’s where I’m headed next

She’s alive again!

Cam shaft sensor - easy to get at, cheap replace and stopped my 2.4 dead

Hope this thread is useful to someone in future - I was at my wits end with this, so if you find this thread don’t give up, you’ll get it
