Have an SV Roadsport with Duratec conversion from Raceline. R420 Spec. Love the Defender for what it is, but the Caterham puts a bigger smile on my face!

I had no end of problems after having my Td5 (D2) remapped (head gasket, exhaust manifold...). I know these were reasonably common issues with the engine anyway and it could have been coincidence, but it was always in the back of my mind that the remap was the beginning of the end.

My 2.2’s done 76,000 miles now and would certainly benefit from the drivability and smoothness that, particularly the 150 BAS remap, seems to impart. The fact that the ‘Autobiography’ map was used on factory 2.2’s also gives me some confidence.

Drivability was the main reason for BAS 150bHP remap for me. It's now pleasurable to drive and appears to be just about right without having to upgrade other parts of the car such as the intercooler and brakes.

Snap!
Good to know there is another Caterham 620 owner on here!

I still think a Defender and a Caterham is the perfect two car garage.

Although my Defender is a lowly old TD5!

Hi Nigel, we seem to be like minded. My Puma 90 is a recent acquisition and I'm loving it. Its become my daily for the winter months now I'm retired.

Nice 90!
Great looking 90 bud!

And wow, how clean is it?

Mine has never been that clean, but it does spend almost all of its life off road.

So I’m a bit late to the party. I’m planning to get a remap from Pete at BAS who has been incredibly helpful.

Before I push the button any more experiences (good or bad) I should bear in mind? Cheers

Just do it, and then you'll wonder why you didn't sooner!

Highly recommend that you fit an Engine Monitoring System to drive according to the EGTs though Thumbs Up --

BAS 170 here and it's the best mod I've done (2014 2.2 110) by miles. Just remember you do have to push the throttle pedal down to get the umph though. I was a bit underwhelmed for a start, until I realised that!

If you don't use yours off road, an Alive Tuning Eibach rear anti-roll bar will ensure the increased power doesn't leave you in the ditch (my second best mod) too.

I wouldn't mess about with the 150 though. You might as well have the full works.

I concur with Joe. I had the 150 first and it was great but then Pete upped it to 170 while I was there for something else. Big difference and unless you tow there is no need for a bigger intercooler. Best mod on the vehicle.

jumping on the bandwagon here, the BAS tunes are fantastic. keep in mind if you buy the 170 on the RRC tool, you get the 150 as well. The 150 tune is remarkably smooth, its a real beauty. the 170 is virtually the same, but there is more torque, and after about 80% throttle it just goes like stink.

Ive run the 170 since June on the stock intercooler including driving from CH to NO in august and spending a month there touring. only problem encountered was a stock intercooler hose ruptured, but that would have happened regarless of tune or not.

Like you, i was on the fence for a while. but after the tune I felt a bit like i had wasted some good years of my life by not buying it sooner! Laughing Roaming around 🇳🇴🇨🇭

Thanks all! I’ve been talking to Pete about the 170 but had hesitated to push the button....

Thanks for the advice- sounds like it’s the way to go and good to hear it’s been ok on stock intercooler.

it's good on a standard IC, but you might as well get the BAS one to take full advantage of the remap Thumbs Up --

I've got the BAS intercooler and all his hoses, but they made no difference to the performance (which was what I expected).

However, Pete does his uprated turbo too, and you need them for that.

I still can't quite justify the cost as it's so good with the tune as it is, but as everything is ready for it, it's so tempting.
