Swingaway Wheelcarrier on Pickup with Twin Ladders?
Evening,
Does anyone have any suggestions for a swingaway carrier solution for our DCPU?

We have the drop-down tailgate and a full-length rack which has the double ladders for support at the back.

I had intended getting the Safari Equip swingaway as it is Galv'd, a good price and I think would work with their bumperettes that I already have fitted. Then i realised that the RH ladder will be totally in the way!

I have seen a dcpu with a similar setup but using the ridiculous priced alisport carrier which i am not prepared to splash out on.

Cheers,

Will the nakatanenga one work? Still not cheap though. Ray

The Nak one costs more than the Allisport! Shocked

Isn't the usual solution to this to replace the right hand ladder with a narrower single strut? I'm sure Patriot used to offer that as an option for their DCPU set up. Darren

I think this may be more bespoke:

In the second picture, that looks a much better idea and stronger. It wouldn't be that hard to make either. Thumbs Up

Looks like all they’ve done is cut the leg off and welded it back in upside down and back to front. Ray

That vehicle belonged to former forum member Sonic3d who is actually the person who designed what is now the Allisport swing-away wheel carrier, and from whom I bought my swing-away. He sold (I believe) the design and manufacturing rights to Allisport.

He hasn't been active in the forum for about 6 years now, which is a shame, but I think moved on from Defenders.

Mine has the Patriot ladders and the Safari Equipment swingaway. The single leg ladder uses a solid aluminium 25mm section for the right-hand upright instead of the 25mm square tube on the normal ladder.

Before fitting the carrier:

The foot of the right-hand ladder needed a bit of trimming to fit inside the lower carrier bracket, but nothing serious:

Both ladders have been powder coated black since these photos were taken.

I’m not sure which rack you have but mine is Hannibal with the twin ladders and I have the Safari equip swing away fitted . The only issue is where to attach the bungees for the canvas !

Thanks all, that is some good info. I will so a little more research.

My rack is the Flatdog one with the full ladders so the right one will need modification to fit the carrier. I wonder if the Safari Equip carrier can be fitted with a gas strut to hold it open in the wind/on slopes?

Cheers
