Hi,
It is normal to get oil in the inlet duct, I think it will be from the crank case breather. Over time it builds up and can appear to be excessive. After the EGR valve, the exhaust soot mixes with the oil and this looks terrible. Clean the pipes and check them in a few months time, if you are concerned about it. |

Thanks for the reply. So that I understand correctly, is what I'm seeing oil that starts off in the inlet duct (from the breather) and eventually works its way through the turbo charger and charge air cooler to the exhaust duct? You mentioned only the inlet duct so I'm not too sure.

Fit a Provent filter and this should stop.

Thanks JST; my conclusion is, it's not a concern. While I have you; I don't see a Maintenance Schedule item to check the PCV valve. Do you know how often this has to be checked?
