I have made a start this evening getting the landy ready for the Dinitrol tomorrow.
I got it up on ramps and started taking bits off, got the rear step off, rear mud flaps off, exhaust off, front mud flaps off, plastic covers from bottom of seat box off, I have also got some of the wiring loom out the way. I would also put a plastic/dust sheet under your defender too. I dinitroled mine last week and now my garage floor is covered in specks of the stuff. It sticks to your shoes and 5 minutes later you are falling out with swmbo over the state of the carpets!

I think I have got everywhere on the chassis, I have not done the doors or bulkhead yet. I got 3 cans of the ML cavity wax inside the chassis, I had quite a lot run out onto the plastic sheet, I did manage to catch most of it into a container. I got 4 cans of the black wax on the outside of the chassis, this has given a really good covering, I kept going over it. I am wondering if I should be also filling the chassis up with the black wax or will the ML be sufficient? Put a hat on too, I did mine and my hair was covered in the stuff. Despite a couple of showers, my pillow was a dark shade of grey in the morning...
Mrs Couplands not happy...!

Tell me about it, I'm sitting here now picking bits out, even after a shower, I also look like I have got the Black Death even after a good scrub! It is very satisfying knowing you have done it yourself and saved a few quid. I have still got the doors and bulkhead to do but hopefully they won't be so messy. I have got 2 cans of black left, I'm still thinking about pumping them into the chassis, I might need to thin it down a little bit to spray it through my cavity tool! Kev |

I'd wait a week or two and see if you need to redo any areas, or areas missed. After that I'd put some in/around the rear cross member first, then chassis next, starting back to front.

I protected mine with Dinitrol today too - messy stuff! I'm now completely waterproof and my axle stands will never ever rust.... oh and I think I got at least some of it on the Defender too...  |

This is the first time I have used Dinitrol, I have used waxoyl lots of times on my old 300tdi 90. I must say I found the Dinitrol a lot easier to use and a lot less messy than the waxoyl, oh and waxoyl stinks! After reading the rust proofing thread I think I'm gonna get some ACF-50 and go round the body cappings. When I told some people what I was up to today they could not believe it that Land Rover had not done a better job from the factory. Kev |
