What was the outcome to this?

There's been no outcome so far. As it only seems to happen in hot weather on a long run and I haven't and been in that situation for at least a couple of years. The car is still running fine. Am hoping to go to Portugal next year, so we'll see if it crops back up again then. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

How old and what make are your tyres I had something like this, replaced the Tyres and it disappeared

They are Conti Cross Contact, about 7 years old or so. If it were tyres I'd expect it to happen more often and in a wider range of circs. I rotate my tyres at service and that didn't seem to alter the issue. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Had a quick read through this and my immediate thought from your description which you describe as just a noise.. No other symptoms and hasn't happened for ages... Is there any chance it could be related to your viscous fan?? Assuming that that's what you have..
The different noise I can get from mine is very noticeable if I'm close to the truck when it changes note..
You say it's temp related so just wondering if that had been considered daft as it may sound

I actually wonder if this is just gear chatter, as it only happens at very light load. When it is warm, oil viscosity drops, things expand and loose some pre load. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing
