Nokian Winter tyres non studded - worth a try
i thought about this alot last year and having gained a vehicle this year thought again long and hard (which didnt take me long....) and have just purchased a set of Nokian LT2s. local tyre shop couldnt get within £50 of online per tyre so online it was, arrived today, pick up rims for them Monday and will see how they fair!

this is the first year i have moved away from BFG ATs for the winter. that vehicle is currently shod with BFG MTs and i dont rate them on the colder icy roads and compacted snow we get around here so Nokians it is!

Will keep you posted. the roads around here are not great come winter and the benefit of better compound for the cold wont hurt either. at least it will stop better than the ATs and directional stability should be better. Cheers

I’ve got 8+ years on a set of those. Half the time I failed to take them off during the summer!

Good choice, you won’t regret it. I ran the LT for 7 winters, now the LT2 are on and will enter their 3rd winter. Main reason I replaced the first LT set was that I also bought a new set of HD Wolfs, the genuine gloss black version. I was still on 80% with those LT, but thought after 7 years the rubber might have hardened a bit, and living a bit higher up above the lake now, better to play it optimally safe. The LT2 are also quieter than the LT, actually no difference with my summer GG TR. My tire center initially installed the new LT2 on the Wolfs using standard lead weights for balancing. In order to not damage the paint on these steel rims, now before each winter they are rebalanced leaving those original standard weights on, but adding glue on weights which each time can easily be removed again without paint damage. Sofar that works very well, wheels were just rebalanced and they never had to use more than 40 gram new glue on weights on a wheel.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

cheers Eric. i am going to stick these on an old set of boosts and am not too worried about the rims for balancing wise so will just see how they go! The rims are winter set anyway so expecting some damage from corrosion. Bet we have a really mild winter now. Cheers

we ran them on a bmw and they were great .we did some testing on corsa and ran 3 different brands and all were very good and all did 3 yrs of fair mileage .

cheaper ones wear rate was much higher then the nokians which did a 4 year and still had 3-4mm of tread at that age.

i rate them as good as the Dunlop winters we ran before on various bmws at work.

You’ll also appreciate how good they are in the wet James, especially on dual carriage ways/motorways when you hit a bit of surface water at speed.

cheers, Steve
