Inspired by the Darien Gap thread, I remembered reading about this as a child.

An interesting watch. Hard to see how they thought it would ever work with that huge weight and smooth tyres! James

At 11m 22secs to 11 min 34 approx - was that a milkman or a clippy standing in the doorway ................ Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

I did see that Laughing

Thought it odd that they apparently drove it across America to the port rather than backload it?

It was as wide as most of the roads so sending it by rail was also out, I doubt that they had many trailers and tractor units powerful enough to haul it to trailer it across. It must also have been hard to find a route where there were bridges strong enough to withstand 55t. Even today moving > 45t is a headache. Almost a wheeled “Spruce Goose” Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

I enjoyed that, thank you for posting. Who would have thought that weight and those tyres would struggle! It may have inspired LR to put Pirelli PZeros on the D3 and try and move it on wet grass!
