Thought I had saw it on Blue Peter in about 1978 or thereabouts , amazing what you can do with a washing up liquid bottle and double sided sticky tape. 2011 Defender XS 110 Station Wagon - Rejected

I don't think anything you put in will improve sound quality much until the speaker layout is sorted and even then...

I have no complaints regarding the head unit or the spealers. Things can always be changed but the standard set up is not bad.People who have had other cars with fancy sound systems might differ but it is fine for me. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Yeah that's definitely the way forward. I was planning to put some speakers up above the windows half way along to help a bit...

i changed mine for an alpine unit which is excellent. ditto the speakers, uprated those. Trouble is there is little you can realistically do to get good sound in a defender, there's just too much resonance no matter what you do.

The Defender is for going off road, lugging gear, towing the boat.
The BM is for avoiding off road at all costs, lugging some gear, going fast and having a good sound system.

As long as I can hear the Landy stereo, that's still an improvement on older models! Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.

I find the sound system useless unless I am on my own , don't know what it is about the defender but when we travelled in the D3 things were petty quiet now when we are all out in the defender everyone is talking and carrying on , most of the time I turn the radio off as I can't here it anyway 2011 Defender XS 110 Station Wagon - Rejected

Yep - Clarion make them. I find the XS stereo to be quite good compared to some others. A Defender sound system won't rival top end Audi / BMW system but as long as is sounds ok and plays MP3s / iPod lists I'm happy. John

Strangely enough, Alpine make a lot of kit for JLR, so the standard could even be an Alpine.

But have to agree, the first thing I did was swap it for my Sony Bluetooth unit! Got a Inphase USW10 that I had fitted in my L200 to fit once I find somewhere to squeeze it in, that'll make a hugh difference. I have to admit though, the standard speakers (considering their size) seem to have pretty decent clarity. Craig Rogers
