Standard rear springs - effect of different length shocks
The first image shows the difference in length when the shocks are fully extended. The black shock is the std land rover , the silver Terra Firma and yellow OME. The second image shows that eyes were all aligned.
What effects on handling should I notice by using shocks which differ in their fully extended length?

Only on full axle drop would you get the chance of the spring popping out of the top mount, but that also depends on how long the springs are... you may find that even on full damper extension there's enough "spring" in the spring to stay put.

Failing that you'd either need to physically hold the top of the spring in place (jubilee type clamps) or have relocation cones.

On full compression, if the spring was capable of being fully squashed up, to the point the axle was compressing the bump stop, then the damper may over compress, and possibly damage it.

But I would have thought (would have.... Shocked ) that the manufacturers would allow a certain amount of leeway in so much as when the axle touched the bump stop then the damper wasn't at it's fully compressed state.... an extra 1/2~3/4" of compression would be nice.

If your springs are HD then there's a chance they wouldn't fully compress anyway.

I wonder if the damper manufacturer is smart enough to allow for the worst-case scenario of full compression with a missing bump stop.
