Ineos negotiated the rights to the old design Defender?

or just lazy journalism?

https://carbuzz.com/news/dont-like-the-new...lternative

"The INEOS Grenadier will start rolling out of Wales under BMW power in 2021.

Before rolling out the new Defender, Land Rover retired the old one. But that doesn't mean the previous model is being put out to pasture altogether. It'll still be built, and in the UK, no less – just not by Land Rover.

Having negotiated the rights to the old design, the new automotive division of the INEOS chemical company has now announced both where the old Defender will continue to be built, and what it will be called. After more than 6,000 votes were tabulated online, the vehicle will now be sold as the INEOS Grenadier."

Didn’t LR publicly state that there was no chance of Ineos getting the rights ever? 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Sounds like click bait to me. I can’t imagine they would relinquish rights. That would be too ridiculous even by JLR’s standards.

No the older defender was kaput.

They needed crumple zones, airbags and the like. I'm on IG: https://www.instagram.com/osloblue42/

and they also said Defender production would end in 2015, there would be no V8 version, the new model wouldn't be based on the DC100... need anyone go on?

As it's very clear JLR's market is so very different then why would they not want to generate some revenue from something that is effectively fully written down?

I've emailed the author directly to double check the fact. I'll see if he replies. I see no problem in hoping this is true for now. It must be far easier/less expensive for INEOS to alter an existing model to suit than starting with a blank piece of paper.

Sounds good. Except for the engines. Made In GB. 🇬🇧

Watts ÷ Volts = Amps.

According to my dictionary a grenadier can also be:-

a common bottom-dwelling fish with a large head, a long tapering tail, and typically a luminous gland on the belly. Rolling with laughter

I'm pretty sure when people voted for a name for Projekt Grenadier they weren't thinking of a fish. Santorini 90XS SW

After reading discomog, I’d change my user name into something less fishy if I were you. Rolling with laughter
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.
