Extra Security
Having just seen that Neon1991's Defender has unfortunately been half-inched from behind gates and with a tracker disabled, has anyone considered using a pressure pad under the wheel to act as an alarm? Reverse engineered so that when 'set' it triggers only when the rear wheel rolls 'off' the pad rather than on it? Small enough as to be invisible under the wheel. Wireless and tied to phone/doorbell/outdoor lights? Maybe even a small, hidden high-piercing alarm box hidden elsewhere in the vehicle, such as rear wheel arch etc?

https://www.ultrasecuredirect.com/floor-pressure-mat-alarms-c452

I'm not a techy guy, but surely this could be made by someone? If the baddies have to disable the battery to kill the main alarm/tracker, then they won't be able to drive it immediately and will either have to push/tow it off the driveway as quietly (ergo slowly) as possible. An entirely unexpected bright light, a piercing alarm, and a notified owner in the house would surely make them scarper?

No doubt a boffin will tell me this is impossible, but just a thought. Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

My father used to have a pressure pad alarm on the staircase to be warned when the dog was trying to sneak upstairs! Should be relatively simple with a few bits from Maplin!

However depending on vehicle location, a simple blue flashing beacon and alarm on a PIR sensor to warn of any movement would also work well? James

Good idea. There are a number of pressure mat sensors available for the elderly and infirm that alarm when a person stands up from a chair or attempts to get out of bed. Similar principle so shouldn't be too difficult to source something. Defender 90XS SW

The other option, if something under the wheel is too complicated, is a pad in the driver’s seat, separate hidden battery, piercing alarm in cabin. I’m assuming almost all tea-leaves will sit in the seat at some point to steer/fiddle with writing etc? You could even put in a vibrator (ahem Whistle ). Pure shock and awe. Least excepted, louder than expected, and no ability to source the alarm or turn it off as it is neither standard nor wired to the primary battery.... Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

My friend had his Van broken into (no damage) and all his tools taken...

He now has a PIR sensor (they are wireless) in the van that links to the house alarm. Works a treat in a Van as the back is dark.

Maybe a utility this would be ok also?

I've been thinking about this for a long time, i was gong to get someone to build me a device that would send me an SMS message whenever the ignition was engaged in position 1 2 or 3. but im not good at electrical design and wouldn't know where to start or even where to build one.

another thing i was thinking about a wireless baby monitor as mad as that sounds.

One of the irish chaps on site kept having his bikes nicked until he hooked his bike up the main power in the house.

those cheapo amazon trackers have the facility to send a text every time you turn on the ignition. Can be set to the interior lights too.

A few people have started to ask questions about tracked defenders been hit and the device removed . So either someone who is installing these on defenders are giving the game away. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
