It has been bugging me all morning, but I finally realized why just now...

Does anyone else think the rear of the New Defender looks like a mid 90's Zuke Vitara Fatboy?!?!

Which then leads me to believe that the new Defender is the illegitimate love child of the Suzuki Vitara Fatboy and and Skoda Yeti.

Anyone in France can have all the details for a while now from good dealers. Got to see it official yesterday and they’ve been telling truth on spec, price and time-scale. Oddly they are showing off a 90 but can’t have one for 12 months. Feb for first 110 delivery. Looks better in the flesh apart from rear view which is very concept car and toy looking. Having a rear door on the 90 seems pointless unless those seats fold down.
Cubby box can be ordered with a headrest !
90 starting €65k inc taxes/on road costs in France....so way way off my price range...that said the last one reached €52k before they stopped selling and you get a lot more car for the money with the new.
That SA article is accurate aside from saying you can fit 6 people in the 90. 2 of them would need to be in the advanced stages of anorexia.
Overall it looks a good motor just too expensive to be a Defender, at least a working one...but thats not the market they are aiming at.

Why on earth have they moved the rear lights in board ??? ..... ?????????????? Shocked

General shape ? Yeah, OK. I get it ... defender-ish shaped, square front, rear door etc etc
General interior ? Yeah, OK. Looks not too bad.


Rear lights ? What the ?

Land Rover ! ... all you had to do was put a rear red light near the hip line, and an indicator near the bottom corner and it'd you'd have it looking ace. Any other rear lights would be fine... but to lose the hip and corner style its really missing a hughely iconic detail of its heritage. Instead, its wearing a set of braces to hold the lights.

*sigh*

( Whilst I still like the overall look of it though - I cannae afford one Rolling with laughter )

I believe this vehicle will be exceptional but too expensive.

Oh, as a vehicle it'll be capable and good. I don't doubt that. It's just my comment is that the rear lights are an easy carry over to make a modern interpretation of, yet retain that iconic heritage design language of defender. -------------------------------

So it’s basically a Disco with some vague Defenderesque styling. Higher pricing, worse approach and departure angles, lower payload, (much) more complexity, likely to not be modular and with bits that will cost a fortune if scratched.

So basically it’s missing everything that people liked about the original?

Agreed that the Wrangler is what would have my attention at the moment. And the Bollinger B1.
