Another reason to live in the French Alps
There are many reasons I can give for living in the French Alps, some of which will be well known to those of you who have visited these parts. But here's another. Got back from the UK yesterday afternoon, a tad tired, mind clearly switched off. Left the DC as per the photo for 24hrs. Not only was the DC still there, but also my ipad and wallet which were sitting in the cubby. I'm obviously getting old.... Whistle

You definitely don't want to do that if you come over to the UK. Shocked

^^^^ yep, that's true. I was over in the Western Isles last week, and I reckon I could have done that quite happily.

On the other hand, it was so windy that the ipad and wallet might have been OK, but the door would probably have blown off its hinges and ended up in the next door croft!

but actually I also meant to say that it's really nice to live somewhere like that, where you probably are cautious enough, but you don't feel paranoid about it, or need to be looking over your shoulder all the time. Donald

ahh le Mont Blanc Very Happy

I totally understand your feeling. 20 years ago at home in Germany I left my motorcycle on the pavement, forgot the key in the lock, green neutral-gear lamp shining brightly in the night, overnight. Next morning, still there.
Drove to Wales, parked it on the side road, locked, with a chain. Two days later it was pinched by some low-lifes who stole a van to throw my motorcycle in to Evil or Very Mad so the police told me.

Trouble is, there re no deterrents here. If you get caught you are told you are a naughty boy and don't do it again.
Well that is for the first 5 times you appear before the beak, and after that it is as a result of your deprived childhood and you need taxpayers to send you on holiday.
If you do not get caught because of underfunded police and minimal numbers you make a fortune which you put in your offshore bank account to hide it from the Benefits Agency from whom you claim Universal Credits and Child Allowance for those children who are based abroad. Funny that you can use the same photographs of children that 97 other claimants do.
Why did I ever bother to get a job ??
