Well, don't think it's all easy peasy. The old girl is 23 and hasn't been used to the long days that we have subjected her to. The injector pump throws a wobbly, Censored out diesel from the join between the body and the output pipes.....

Luckily she decides to want a rest just after we have pulled into Alice Springs Mr. Green There's a good Land Rover .

Decision is taken to replace the pump with a recon unit, just have a kill a few days waiting the the new one to be sourced and fitted. Get to visit the attractions around Alice Springs and some of the history within it.

Can recommend the Ghan museum and the Transport Hall of Fame :

Then, after a day at the very helpful Landy dealer in Alice, Suttons, we are ready to rock and roll again:

We decide to ignore the leak from the power steering box and just buy a couple of litre's to keep it topped up..... Mr. Green

Sorry to see your poorly Landy, was it the stub axle ?

This is the worst we had, axle wise. The heavy duty drive member screw on cap dissapeared some where after Alice but luckily I had brought a few odd's n sod's spare parts out from the UK with me and scored with a plastic axle cap which fitted Very Happy

Was it the dreaded corrigations that caused it?
While I was in South Australia we travelled around the Flinders they were bad enough there and that was in a land cruiser.

Axle tube broken off at the diff end.No warning like leaking oil,was travelling at 75kmh,tyre pressures 28psi,not overloaded.Must have just had enough of corrugations, admittedly I do not know of its life before I acquired the vehicle.....pretty hard considering the loose rivets by the back doors?

Unlucky for you Eddy. I must say that the 130 handled corrugations really well and seemed quite happy at 75-90 kph on halfway decent dirt roads. For the really bad stuff it was slow and steady but there was not much of that really. Certainly Australian roads were light years better than some African roads I have driven over the years.

We left Alice Springs for the big tourist spots and its tarmac for a few hundred km's. Good news was the power steering leak never got any worse and if anything dried up a bit.

When traveling in WA its best to remember that mining rules and the bigger you are the more others have to move out of your way Mr. Green

For the next couple of days it was dirt roads and quiet bush camps under the stars. Landy ran fine with no problems. It has a large fuel tank and we think that 1100km would be possible on a tank but didn't want to push it too close as you are never too sure of how much sediment could be in the bottom. Did do over 700km between stops a few times.

Once you get into WA its quite noticeable that the weather changes. It gets hotter and even in the middle of an Aussie winter we were seeing 30C plus temps during mid day. Flies put an appearance in as well.....

Seeing bush fires was not uncommon. It seems that they are allowed to just burn until they go out. Mind you there is not much apart from scrub tree's and bush to incinerate. Very few towns around this bit.

We also managed to loose one of the rear quarter windows to a stone that must have hit the loadbed frame and bounced forward into it. Plus the windscreen had a six inch crack appear behind the rear view mirror !
