Anyone use an OBD app with Bluetooth adapter thingy
I bought one of these Sp full ELM327 OBDII Car OBD2 Reader Diagnostic Scanner Works with Android/Windows https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07RHRMG1B/ref...yDbZHDB8E3

And downloaded this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details...&hl=en

It works a treat and I can have a load of aux gauges on my phone or tablet. Only problem is the obd2 Bluetooth adapter that plugs into the OBD port is always live, even with ignition off. Anyone else used one of these and do I need to worry about flattening my battery? 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I have an UltraGauge Bluetooth one and the battery is fine, just got back from being away for 3 weeks and defender started first time so no battery probs! 2.4TDCI 90 - everyday brilliance
S3 V8 Lightweight - in the garage being ignored #newchassistime
S3 lightweight - 2nd car 24V fire risk with a full tilt and the windscreen down
S1 80" - first car fun - 75mph in neutral downhill once #wobblesallround

Presumably if I fit an Ultragauge Blue to a 2015 model and leave it permanently connected then I'm going to have to modify the fuse box cover?? Defender 90XS SW

I think you can get 90° plugs for the ODB socket. Thumbs Up

I bought a 90 low profile ribbon extension cablefor not much off amazon, you can then close the lid. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I haven't actually used this in the end, as I didn't like that the Bluetooth dongle was always live even with the ignition off. Was giving me sleepiness nights thinking about my battery drain. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

If you're really worried about battery drain then you could always do the following:

    Buy an OBDII extension cable (I use a right angled one so I can close the door)

    Find the pin out for the 12v positive feed on the extension cable and splice a relay into the middle of it

    Activate the relay with an ignition or ACC power source (back of radio is nearby and ideal)

    Connect other side of relay coil to negative ground, plenty of those around, again radio area is good or body


The OBDII will then only be powered when you turn the key Thumbs Up Now: 2010 2.4 TDCi 110 Utility Wagon

Those flat OBD2 extension cables also have a variant with an inline button switch to disconnect the male from the female connector. So as long as you remember to switch it off you are ok and don’t have to unplug and replug.

Another alternative is the OBDLink LX or MX, they even have one for iPads and iPhones, these auto switch off so no bat drain, have secure Bluetooth, are good quality, fast in comms to display device but cost a fair bit. Having said that, permanently connecting a cheap ELM327 into expensive ECUs may not be a good idea long term, so it may be £’s well spent.

I bought a 90 deg flat ribbon OBD extension cable - this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01AGR076S/ (now unavailable Rolling Eyes )

It fouls the cover so I can't get it back on. Would somebody share a link to one that allows the cover to be refitted? > 110 XS Double Cab

I bought similar - the cover goes back on but with slight curve out on one side. Not really noticeable.

As for modifying the fuse box, I just removed the single screw that holds the OBD socket in its mount and that allowed the socket to go backwards and fit my adaptor and close the fuse box.
