DIY Paint fever
Last week, whilst I had the NAS step removed for powder coating and prompted by a few posts on here, I tackled the fading cross member with the BuzzWeld kit. Whilst it wasn't too bad compared to others I've seen the result pleased me immeasurably. So much so that my eye wandered to other parts of the vehicle to see where else I could freshen up/extend the lifespan!

Obvious contenders are the front bumper and tubular sidesteps. As you'll no doubt have gathered I'm pretty much a novice when it comes to spraying my vehicle so after some guidance which paint products to use. After extensive use of the search function for other folks' preferences I'm not any further forward.

I have some of the BuzzWeld Kit (Rust Encapsulator and FX Liner) left which will be enough for the front bumper (also have some Dinitrol for the inside surface) - but wondered what have people used on their tubular sidesteps?

I know people will recommend taking them off and going to a Powdercoaters but I strangely enjoyed doing the crossmember myself so looking for any tips or recommendations...TIA

I stripped mine. Welded up holes in the bottom. Filled and prepped properly and painted gloss black. Put the plate back on with rivnuts and dinitroled the inside

I started like that about 5 years ago on a cobra replica.... It leads to a full nut and bolt restoration. Be warned its hard to stop
