I have a LED light in my interior light and it hasn;t affected canbus. I don;t think the canbus affects the interior light? I think it's just for the "essential safety" lights like sidelights (maybe), indicators and headlights (and tail lights)
Stand to be corrected, but I can confirm I have had LED interior lights for a few years with no errors... Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

The CANbus doesn't go anywhere near the interion lights in any Defender. The lights are operated by the 10AS alarm unit (or the not-10AS unit on later vehicles) and the only real pitfall to watch out for is that the light is permanently live with the earth switched.
There are many threads on here which have covered interior lights, but there are no real problems upgrading them. You need to be very careful not to earth the permanently live supply with your screwdriver (or even with the existing bulb) when working on them, doing so will blow a fuse. |

I added a third light to my USW last year.

Likewise added a third light. There was enough slack in the wires running between the two existing ones just to pull the wire to give enough excess to cut and splice in the third light. No need for any additional cable etc. Then put in led’s from eBay that come with a connector that fits into the original bulbs fitting. A real quick and easy job. I used the dreamel to cut he roof lining.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have a low profile eBay LED light which I am going to try to fit around the joint in the rooflining, so I don't have to cut it. If it works I'll post some pics.

As long as you don’t go over 1A load you can use the auto illuminate / dimming10AS system also. Mirroring standard features.
1A is typically way more scope than you even need anyway for LED fixtures. I think I have around an 840mA load on mine. (Never has a problem at all.) As suggested, CAN-BUS system not a problem in a Defender for these. You can also use the existing switching as standard giving you Off/Perm On/On auto illuminate / dimming.
