If you order the Britpart kit that has a G at the end of the serial number it is OEM manufacturers in a blue box ie Timken bearings and Corteco seals. I would avoid the normal Britpart ones though. 2005 Td5 110 Hardtop

Interesting that that kit does not appear to include the top pin (at least there isn't one shown in the illustration).

Thanks chaps, I took the advice offered and went for the “g” marked britpart kit as it was listed as Oem, a little bit more expensive but that is of no concern, it looks like a nasty job so don’t want to be doing it over because I wanted to save a few pennies..... but the original LR prices are scary, you’d be looking at almost a couple of grand to do both swivels and new wheel bearings, I wonder how many people actually take their defender to LR to get their swivels done Shocked Optimists say the glass is half full..

DS, a very useful post, thank you. It is of course the lower pin which appears not to be included in the bearmach kit.

For those who don't know, the top pin changed from 2007 and integrated the inner race of the upper bearing into the pin, the rollers being held in a plastic cage and free from the pin. Generally the post 2007 arrangement seems to be inferior in every respect, especially since it has fewer rollers. As far as I know, the <2006>=2007 vehicle without problems and is probably a sensible upgrade.

The later type pin TAR100040 can be seen in the illustration here:-

So why is there no top pin in the kits, I looked at a few when looking at which kit to buy and I don’t recall seeing any, should I order separately or do they rarely require changing? Seems strange not being part of the kit Shocked Optimists say the glass is half full..

The Bearmach kit includes the top pin and bearing (as stated in my second post I mistook the top pin in the picture for a bottom pin) but not the bottom pin and bearing. I imagine that the bottom pin is considered not to wear as quickly, although it is hard to see why this should be.

I was rather shocked at the prices of the bottom pin. Rimmer Bros (link in my last post) list a genuine lower pin at ÂŁ92.22, but a pattern part at ÂŁ2.94. Shocked That means that the genuine part is over thirty-one times the price of a visually identical pattern part!

If you look at LR prices for the swivels it is nearly ÂŁ700 just for the housing never mind the rest, scary prices, but yes, there must be a valid reading why the bottom pin isn’t included and I can only imagine it would be less wear 😊 Optimists say the glass is half full..

Used to not include the pin because it was genuine only and it’s a separate bearing so you reuse the pin if not damaged (imagine it like a stub axle your wheel bearings ride on if that makes sense?) - they changed it again and like blackwolf says they’re just Confused

Older railko bushes take the thick seal and newer take the “thin” seal. Don’t forget the seal retaining ring when you put it together and make sure the bolt holes line up first too (won’t fit backwards)
