Was meant to go (and two mates did - my cycling/Tour partners) but had work and couldn’t be arsed with the rain. They were the wrong side of the mudslide so sat in place half way up to Tignes from when the road closed at 10am until it was cancelled and saw exactly nothing Big Cry

They’ve driven back to St Ger, through torrential rain, and we’re probably going to try it all again on the final climb to VT. Weather forecast when the riders arrive: 95% Rain (and if it’s anything like we’ve had over the past few days it will be Biblical) and a sweltering 9c Whistle Monsieur Le Grenadier

It looked crazy even by TDF standards.

I was also gutted for Pinot. It would've been great seeing him battle today and tomorrow.

Amazing race though.

Nope. It’s the open air space to your as you drive in to town from the bottom of the hill, (from Chamonix/Motorway), next to the modern looking exhibition centre. Monsieur Le Grenadier

Organisers just cut tomorrow’s stage from 130k to 59k. Cut out Cormet du Roseland and Col du Longefoy. So it’ 29km blast to the foot of VT and then 36km climb. I did the climb a few weeks ago, it’s a beast. So, all teams will either accept that Bernal has won and it will be processional, or they’ll all go hell for leather, attack after attack, and break each other down. Could be a strangely epic day. And could suit G.... Thumbs Up

Mrs Grenadier thinks that it was done by ASO to ensure Alaphilppe makes it on to the podium, now that Pinot has gone Whistle Monsieur Le Grenadier

Didn't know that. I was looking forward to a whole afternoon In front of the box.

On the conspiracy theory theme, chucking Rowe and Martin out of the race definitely raised a few eyebrows. Or tin foil hats.

^^^ Mrs Grenadier did her nut when she heard that. We have a friend who’s married to a somewhat ‘blinkered’ local and we never hear the end of drug conspiracies, and this despite the fact that my old man is a Clinical Pharmacologist and explained why Froome’s Adverse Analytical Reading was just a load of nonsense, to put it mildly. Despite reading out a full, and fairly technical medical email, he wouldn’t have any of it. Froome, guilty, Sky cheats. When we quizzed him on Alaphilppe’s Renaissance (a tease, as I think he has been the highlight of the tour), and whether drugs were involved, he just claimed it was ability and French style. Same for our rugby players apparently, and Lewis Hamilton is grumpy and angry, whilst Grosjean is just passionate. But then, this is someone who won’t let his son speak English, eat English food or have a Union Flag in his room, or support the England rugby team, even though he is half English. Lots of murmuring about that over here as well.

I swear that when Alaphilppe won the TT and did that skid at the end, the first thing that sprang to mind was Maradona's goal celebration v Greece at WC94 when he was subsequently banned for failing a drugs test.

That is a lovely Series IIA. I’m quite missing mine looking at that.
What a difference a day or two makes. It was 42 degrees in the car when we got back to it after finishing our meeting in Sallanches on Wednesday and now I’m hearing all about the rain and hail there. 1995 Defender 110 CSW

^^^ 'Normal' alpine weather is mid-to-high temps (28-32) getting gradually hotter over four or five days in a row, then on the fifth afternoon a big thunderstorm for a couple of hours to clear the air. Regular as clockwork. We also usually have a number of days when it's cold and a big tree-killing storm every two or three years. This year we've had cold, hail, snow, 38c heat, and the three biggest thunderstorms with torrential rain in my 12 years here in just he last four weeks. It has been an odd season to say the least. This photo was taken near Sallanches on my ride yesterday, and whilst we didn't have snow, we had another absolute belter of a storm that started just two hours after the photo was taken and last the best part of 8hrs. Shocked
