cb shack at lymn truck stop or one at Wakefield jct 41 truck stop Jim at communication eleven or cb11 is a good bloke been using him for 20+yrs |

I've had a CB in the car for ages, but not a 'big user' - mainly for personal/occasional convoy stuff.
Just bought a new one though, and I found www.cbradio.co.uk to be very good. Think I might have bought the last one from them too. I've used a PSM aerial mount before - on the rear of the roof on the nearside for me; and a stainless gutter mount above the driver's side B pillar. At the moment the PSM mount is in use, but I've now got a roof tent which will foul that, so I was digging out the gutter mount to see if I still have all the bits. Another handy thing in a LR, given the amount of ambient noise, is an external speaker which you can just mount to the roof lining above the driver's right ear. You need to decide if you want it permanently or temporary.
Temp I would fit bracket to roof rack. That way easily removed and reapplied when required. Permanent, I would go rear panel by rear door (where you often fit work light) or front wing, so it matches fm aerial. You can get quick release mounts, so you don’t need a big whippy thing all the time. There is a good range of aerials on Thunderpoles website, and plenty of info. I think the do a CB aerial tha5 is short stubby black item, like the flexible FM aerials. The shorter the cable the better to a point, but you want at least a meter of cable to it. A gutter mount, for me, is a no no. They mark the paint, and often don’t stay on or snap, then causing other damage. |
