Exmoor heated seats
Hello again from a frequent reader (because of the mass of good content), but an infrequent contributor.
Trying to wire heated seats.
I’D like to know whether and what is the downside to the following :
The loom kit comes with a red wire that the instructions (such as they are) say should be connected to the ignition.
What would be wrong with connecting that red wire direct to the + terminal on an auxiliary battery.
I understand that the risk is that the seats are left ‘on’ by mistake, but I could cover that by battery isolation switches.
I’d really appreciate input from far more knowledgeable people.
Cheers
Pete

I think for the exact point you wrote. You would only want the seats heated whilst the vehicle is being driven. Would be rad to rig up a relay to do this by sensing the input voltage.

Thanks Andy, appreciate your response.
My thinking was that I could operate the heated seats without having to have the ignition switch set to whatever is required.
Please bear in mind, i’m A complete beginner !

I didn't bother going through the ignition and every things been fine for the last ten years. Also been left on overnight on numerous occasions without flattening the battery. 130 crew cab

Nothing wrong with wiring as you suggest. My rear seats are wired like that. Cheers

Thank you all very much for taking the time to assist a complete amateur.
I'm going to go with the original idea - seems to work for some of you.
I'll let you all know how it goes.
cheers and thanks again

Thumbs Up

Well, I’ve done as I thought would work (and some agreed with me).
Works a treat, and I even tested the “left on by mistake” process, without needing a cut-out switch.
Came through with flying colours.
So i’m really grateful to you all.
Cheers
