TD5 Rear wiper motor wiring - different connectors
Hello all

I'm scratching my head regarding a new rear wiper motor I've just bought for my 110 TD5. Its a superceded part, part number AMR3676G.

The new part has four wires and the original has five and different connectors Confused

Anyone had anything similar? How do I sort it? I'll post some pics once I figure out how to.

I've limited electrickery knowledge but fitted an original rev counter recently (realised how used you get looking at the bit where the clock was), just need a bit of help on this.

Cheers

Can you post some pictures of what you've got? Darren

Here we go - the wonders of modern technology.

1st pic is the new, others are the existing and should hopefully show the wiring ok.

I'm not quite sure how but you've got the wrong part. That motor is for a post 2012 vehicle. However, the diagrams that I've found, whilst identifying two different motors - pre and post '12 - both seem to have the same part number, which is odd. I can only suggest going back to your supplier, I'm afraid. Darren

Thanks for that - I’ve realised the pic on the sellers website is the same as the original that’s fitted so it looks like I’ve been sent the wrong one. I know what you mean about the part number, it’s got me confused🥴

And randomly when plugged in, the new wiper works. It means that the black wire to the smaller connector (the one on the back of the smaller two pin plug) doesn't now connect to anything. I know I'm being an absolute plum but what does this mean? Is the black wire the earth? Cheers! Thumbs Up

Yes, the black wire is earth. How have you plugged it in? Didn't you say it had different connectors?

Assuming you've connected it without issue, it's possible that the internal wiring has been changed so as not to require a separate earth, which probably explains the part number matching, too. It's either earthed through the casing or it somehow uses the other switched earth to serve both functions. Anyway, if it works as expected then I'd take that as a win. Darren

Stupidity on my part to be fair re the connectors, I thought they were different - the only actual difference is that the smaller plug/connector at the rear of the original has the additional wire but they connect to the new one just fine. I'll pay attention next time before posting....... Rolling with laughter

Thanks again for your thoughts, I'll fit the part tonight and that should be it. Headlining re-trim next and thinking about new door cards all round at some point.
