I read that this morning, too. Some of the comments about how easy it's become were interesting and give context to the problems shown in the video in the 'o dear' thread:

Leigh the chirpy Aussie guy in GrizzlynBear talks about how much easier it is now and how he has admiration for those people overlanding 40+ years ago. To emphasise the point he had full mobile coverage and internet at 3000m, whilst sitting in the back of his truck waiting for the breakdown vehicle. He'd also ordered the parts required to be shipped from France and arranged for someone to do the repairs before the tow truck had even arrived! First Overland it isn't, but I really enjoy seeing what they get up to and the people they meet. There are some truly hardcore overlanders out there, I recall a Dutch couple who have been on the road for 15+ years, albeit in a Toyota!

I read somewhere where a German couple were travelling the world for decades, through thick and thin. When his wife passed away he continued on his own, in the same vehicle throughout , i think was a G Wagon! Absolutely amazing

^^ Yes that's the one! True adventure, doing it since forever, making it up as they went. I just love that kind of stuff.
