Starting up
I'm starting out in business on my own, I've been working with me uncle for ten years now and been a partner and have been partly running the business for six years.

I'll be doing roofing, building, some ground works and everything associated with likes.

Trouble is I can think of a company name.

Do I just use last name - Wallace? Do I go with initials? Do I make up a weird unique name?
What's everyone's opinion?

Thanks John

Can you name yourself after your town/village?
Or a nearby hill? Dumyat? (maybe not!)
Forth Valley Builders (is that name taken)?

Just my ideas.

Also if you want a web presence, think of something that does not yet exist (ideally your company name) and register the domain? Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

I'm not really wanting wanting linked to just one town I though long and hard about that
I'm not wanting to hide where I am based however I'm not wanting to be stuck to one area
forth valley builders gives you a better scope, however it is taken I see vans in Falkirk with that name.
I never thought it would be so hard lol.

Think of something different that will make you stand out and people remember your company name, so that in a years time and they need a builder they will think of you.
The famous one is the Indian builders who said on their van "You have tried the cowboys now try us"
I remember that from years ago Thumbs Up 1983 Series 3 Pick up in Marine Blue

A mate of mine was a small builder.
He struggled with anything over 5 foot.

Braveheart Building Services? (though that didn't really end well for him....)
Monument Building Services? (gives you a nice silhouette for your logo..?)
Forth and Clyde Building Services?
Kerse Building Services ( thinking of the Kerse of Stirling - but don't know exactlyy where you are?)

It's one of these things that's important... but not important. I'd have thought that quality of work/service/word of mouth would count for a lot, especially if you've been in business and have some 'good rep' and happy customers behind you.

..or 'roofers and builders' where I've used 'Building Services' above. Donald

not to mention the minis and the Type 2 VW camper...

I always like business names with the proprietor’s name in the title. It gives a sense they are proud of their work. I hate anything like A1 building services etc. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS
