I carry a 2 tonne trolley jack in the back of mine. Not the big garage type, the smaller diy type. It's just easier than the landrover original to use.

This evening I tried to use my never-before-been-out-the-seat-box jack and the same thing happened. Thought it was my usual hamfisted manner with this type of stuff. Glad to hear it’s just the usual build quality of LR... Luckily I was out the back and only trying to take the wheels off for painting. Now need to find a jack to use in a real emergency...

The standard jacks are simply unfit for purpose!

In 🇦🇺 our Land Rovers the jacks are in the battery box.
Mine failed and leaked fluid out everywhere.
I replaced it with a Toyota Hi-Lux mechanical Bottle jack.
Had one with my Old Hi-Lux.
You can also try Land Cruiser or Nissan Patrol bottle jacks they are the same style and you can’t break all three of them they are tried & proven here in 🇦🇺

Likewise mine failed, leaking everywhere through the top seal. Very frustrating.

Thanks to that well known auction site, my ‘new’ Mercedes bottle jack arrived today. It came in a polystyrene container which fits snugly in the box next to the battery. I am now much less worried about jacking my TD5 up if I have a puncture.

My question is - does it matter if the polystyrene container fits against the battery - should there be be room for air to circulate around the side of the battery or is it ok if it is touching? Would appreciate any advice from someone who knows about these things . . . .

Your battery is 'sealed' so no issue with things around the side of it......
