I replaced all hinges on my rear door recently (set @50 quid or so) and I found that the lower two had split in the middle. Things were probably like that for a long time, including back when I still had warranty on my 90 and asked the LR garage in Edinburgh to fix the rattling door - they claimed they couldn’t do anything about it.
With new hinges properly installed, the door is just as quiet as you’d think it should be (and for me, as it’s never been before on any of my Defenders). |

I bought some new hinges for mine, genuine land rover, and they had more play in them than the hinges already fitted. It is not a Defender, it is a One_Ten

You can buy replacement brass ball kits for the rear door hinges for pennies. It's a simple easy job to change them.

Later hinges did not feature the brass ball It is not a Defender, it is a One_Ten
