well ferry booked.
land in Spain circa mid day on the 2nd Oct. drive to Saint Jean Pied de Port - get on the bikes and go. The aim is to be in Roncesvalles before dark which is where we have our first nights accommodation booked |

yep. last month of training starts tomorrow. trying to squeeze as much training in as possible however with family and work commitments it ain't easy. that said I way ahead of where I was the beginning of the year.
just hoping for half decent weather. statistics suggest there's going to be 40,000 ft of elevation gain over the circa 800km's, over circa 7 days.
can't wait. once again many thanks. |

We're going to be doing the French route which is south of Asturius but yes they'll be some up's and down's. don't mind the hills - what goes up must come down and all that  |

we've hit a bit of an obstacle in terms of travel arrangements. kinda putting it out there for ideas but also from my rose tinted glasses perspective I'm wondering if anyone want's a cheap holiday in spain albeit with a few conditions
we've got the ferry booked and the plan was to drive to the start and then one way hire a car from finish back to start point and then drive back to ferry port at Bilbao. one way car hire is outrageous cost of circa £700 which we can't justify. public transport is very inconvenient and besides I very much doubt we could actually do it in time. so looking for someone ideally retired with time on their hands who'd like to do the driving - we'll obviously cover the ferry costs and fuel
- please form an orderly queue as there's no rush we've got a few days yet. |

blimey the challenge has started already......just getting ready.
packing is proving interesting trying to take enough but not too much so as to keep the weight to an absolute minimum; quick dry face towel, soap and tooth paste, 1 spare set cycle clothes, evening trousers, t-shirt and sandals, sports drinks / powders for electrolytes and recovery, pump and inner tube, battery charger for phones, gps etc, waterproof cycle jacket, survival sleeping bag (small tin foil type), - above already = too heavy  |

You might also want a bike tool kit - when I did a long distance cycle ride,mostly off road on gravel and cobbled tracks, the roughness of the tracks caused several bits to start loosening off with vibration and needed tightening every day......... a little bit more weight for you! Although not specifically cycling gear Rohan outdoor clothing is lightweight, has built in SPF and creases fall out quickly. I travel a lot and have quite a lot of their gear for both formal (a business suit) and informal. One advantage is the leisure gear dries very quickly when you wash it. It isn’t cheap gear and lasts for years and years.
Have you thought of sending spare gear ahead using the Poste Restante system, sending packages to local post offices to be collected at a later date?
