A 235 should be about an inch and three-quarters wider than a 7.50.

That's what I expected, and it is across the sidewalls but not the tread. Any they're both Michelin Latitude Cross, so identical apart from the sizes. I was slightly disappointed that my 'wider' tyres really weren't.

Hmm, that is not entirely expected! Convention says that the width of the section is measured at the shoulder, I believe.

Just remember that it is not the size that matters, rather what you do with it. Or so I am told.

This diagram might help explain the discrepancy:

Basically, the 'section width' part of the tyre size isn't the thread width. Darren

Thanks very much.

Looking at my photo, it's the first time I've noticed the metal chimney coming out of the roof. I'm sure it wasn't there before I fitted the wheels...!
