Evoque Recall ~ indicated fuel level may be inaccurate

Seems a strange one:

Alert number: A12/0594/19
Category: Motor vehicles

Batch number / Barcode: The affected vehicles were manufactured between 05 October 2018 and 05 March 2019.

Risk type: Injuries

The indicated fuel level may be inaccurate. This could cause the vehicle to run out of fuel without any low fuel warning.
This may cause the engine to cut out while in motion, leading to an accident.

Not really that strange, fuel gauge over read. Had it on one of ours, was an early build now sorted.

So an engine cut out caused by a lack of fuel justifies a recall due to the accident risk, but a failing Defender intermediate shaft does not. Figure that out!!
I would have thought the former would give more warning signs before failure than the latter and hence be a lower safety risk.

My Mrs has one of these cars and believe me it is not the gauge indicating incorrectly that will cause it to run out it fuel. It seems to always read less than 10 miles left when I get in. If I tell her about the recall she will blame the car not herself if and when she runs it dry. It took eight weeks for her to tell me it needed adblue.
So I’m staying quiet for now

I can actually hear wifeys all over the country
“honestly, it said I had 50 miles left then it just stopped”.

More worryingly, I can imagine irate customers at hair salons throughout the land being unable to go out later after their stylists fail to arrive at work having run out of fuel....
