Exhaust upgrades?
Hi
I have a TD5 defender i would like to put a performance exhaust system and to gain that famous 5 cylinder roar. i understand the turbo whistling and true burble comes when you fit a decat and a straight through silencer (i had this on a previous td5) but now with regulations tightening is there a way to get this noise from an exhaust system on the market that still has the cat to keep it road legal?
Kind Regards

I have a straight through but retain the cat, passed its MOT ok.

You could always go for a 3 inch, but I understand this affects wading depths. I'm on IG: https://www.instagram.com/osloblue42/

I’d look at an Alive CAT back system myself. If you went 3” you might find the noise a bit annoying in the long term Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

Hi
thank you for your reply, wading or off roading isn't a problem for me as i dont intend to go mega off roading. i currently do have a straight through centre box but it hasnt made a difference.
kind regards

HI
Thank you for your reply, do the 3 inch systems fit well or is there any modifications needed?

Hi
do griffin charge roughly the same as Alive for their exhausts?

I can’t really comment on the system but was just a suggestion to look at I would be intesteded in. It may in fact be 3”?
Griffin indeed do get good reviews too, and a bit cheaper but I’d still go for Alive but everyone can make up their own mind. Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

the griffin looks ok and sounds good, loud when you work it for sure

the twisted one i think sounds a little better with more turbo spool noise as it loads up.

without any boxes its too loud and boomy at certain speeds and you need some back pressure in the system to make the best of the td5.

Allisport also make one with a dummy cat shell and a slimline silencer.

I’ll be tempted to get their cat back system (as mines a 2001 pre cat)

Alive one is better than Griffin. I’ve had both, and really you need to loose the cat for the best results. Think both complies do dummy cats, or did anyway.

You could try speaking to Demand Engineering, which I've recently discovered make exhausts for some previously mentioned companies. James

It's CAT back, so the existing CAT stays in situ, the piping and its flange. The rest of the system would be the newsystem from there back.
