Pretty much finished this install now, just the air intake pipe to neaten up in the engine bay and I'm planning a slightly bigger, alloy tank.
The exhaust all done:

The other thing I did was to wire the 'on' switch to a little control box provided by this company: https://www.gsm-uk.net Basicly a relay controlled by a pay as you go sim card, I can now 'text' the heater and in under 15mins the 110 is lovely and warm and the windows defrosted |

I've been pondering using a false second snorkel when I come to getting one that feeds just the air intake to the heater. Should make wading etc not a issue as far as the inlet is concerned.
I was debating if the exhaust could be run up inside it too, but I imagine the heat of the exhaust would melt the snorkel if it was to touch the plastic snorkel. I did debate doing like a combi boiler and putting the intake inside the exhaust but I imagine a combi boiler flu runs a lot cooler 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car) 2009 - current .... 2005 zx10r |

The exhaust does get pretty hot (some people on the facebook group have fitted heat exchanges to run showers etc).
The main problem would be not creating too much back pressure in the exhaust, the manual says 2m max but you could probably increase that with a bigger bore? |

Question is if you took this plan any further than thinking about it? I am wanting to do exactly that and I’m having difficulty finding anything Online related to anyone else doing it… If you know of any information about this I would love to see it |

Hi Gilloverland,
Great job, I’m considering fitting a Lavaner heater under my cubby in my 110. How do you find the hight of the cubby after fitting this? The last thing I need is one more thing to bash my elbows on when I’m driving  |

I’ve got the same box under my cubby box, with a subwoofer in, and find the height far better than standard, and I’ve even got spacers beneath it, to allow the sound out. As standard the cubby is far too low to be used as arm rest in my opinion.

We have it in the Nakatanega console and the height is better than without IMHO. We removed the original wooden wedges underneath. But yes, elbow... we had to move the cubby box forward by 2 or 3 cm, so first try it out and then may be drill new holes. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |

Thankyou for your reply, if I go ahead with this heater idea, I think I will use a MUD heater cubby box as I did want the Nakatanega console but I spoke with Brendan from 4x4 overlander who seemed really helpful but I emailed him twice and had no response. Also I want to still be able to fold the rear seats & I was under the impression that the Nakatanega pushes the cubby towards the rear & gets in the way of the seats. |
