Main beam lights out
Started having a problem with my main beam lights.
Could put them on & sometimes they would just go off all by themselves. Could pull & push the light stalk & they would come back on.
The problem now is that they aren’t coming on at all now.
Read up on some of the faults people have had so collected a new stalk today.
Dismantled around steering column & removed existing stalk. This felt and looked all ok.
Fitted new stalk anyway & lights still remained the same.
I have side lights on the first push of the stalk but no main beam on second push down on the stalk.
I do however have full beam & blue light that lights up on dash.
Took out the dash clocks & looked at & removed the pink relay that I think is related to the lights.
Couldn’t hear it clicking at all when I switched the lights on & off so thinking this maybe my next port of call.
Just popped out to check it tonight & lights came on as usual, pulled off the drive & 50yrds down the road they went off.
Stalk back & forth & they came back on for short while thenoff again. Kept doing this few times & then back to no main beam.
I’m no wizard with the multimeter either.
Any ideas welcome fellas Thumbs Up

I had similar symptoms. It was the pink relay that had gone faulty on mine Thumbs Up

Edit: I misread main beam and full beam. Having re read and replaced main with dipped it makes much more sense.

I think it could be your main lighting switch. As in the little one lower down, not the main one that also controls the indicators and horn Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Already replaced that Grafty Thumbs Up
Next I was going to replace the pink relay as these seem main offenders.

I'd check by bridging the contacts in the relay base with some decent gauge wire and some large spade connectors Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Cheers Grafty, I’ll get my pal to give me a ya day as I’m no whizz with the multi meter.
Do you know which ones to bridge to test ?

All done back up & running.
All lights now working.
Just done same as you Grafty Thumbs Up
Thanks for the assistance, much appreciated. Bow down

Next question is any tips on sorting a squeaky clutch pedal.
Getting rather annoying when pressing & releasing clutch pedal.
It’s internal not the box.
Tried some GT85 which worked for a short while but it’s back now

Its probably the top pivot. Lube the pivot under the bonnet rather than in the cabin it can sound internal even if it is the pivot Thumbs Up

Also I replaced my relay but bridging it worked well until the new one arrived. Not sure it's really required though Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

I wouldn’t bother replacing the pink relay, either keep it bridged, by the bridging relay or bin the dip dim unit from the inner wing. Dip dim is something else to wrong, it’s not required and kills headlight bulbs by giving them a too low voltage.

And as mentioned lubricate the clutch pedal from the top of the pedal box not inside the vehicle Thumbs Up
