Am I the only one that likes the enormously heavy clutch pedal? I think it adds to the er, character of the car.

Although it's a Censored when you've been on a long bike ride and have to get out of a tight parking space Whistle

Wow!!! After finding this thread I ordered the kit from Rimmer. Just put it in (without removing pedal) and a huge difference. One thing though I did lose a bit of pedal travel, has anyone else had that. The spring appears to hit the firewall.

Cheers
Gary

Ha, bloody funny!!! I just found a picture of the spring in place on the net and I put it in the wrong way, no wonder it hits the firewall Smile

Ah well, at least I know how to do it now.

I don't think the problem exists on the Puma as the pedal isn't heavy, probably a different setup so doubt it would work. Andy

the pedal on my MY08 is so heavy its giving me knee pain.

i have to do something about it, i am thinking about getting the redbooster servo clutch but i find the price quite steep.

fitting a new spring would be a cheaper option for sure Smile

Fair enough, have a look at the back of the clutch pedal and see what type of spring is fitted, take photos' too if possible as it might be the same setup. Andy

Ok well that picture shows the spring that you fit as part of the modification to the TD5 pedal so I'm afraid this route won't work on the Puma (unless a softer spring is available). The original TD5 one is a long straight spring that is removed and replaced with the double loop one in the picture. Andy

Would this work on a 300tdi? Do the TD5 & 300tdi share the same parts?

Arrggghh!
I have been struggling for a couple of hours to do this mod, and just cannot get the spring to locate in the bush on the pedal.

I have tried undoing the nut on the master cylinder pushrod to get the pedal as far up as possible, but I still cannot bend the spring enough to engage it in the bush.

I think I will need to remove the pedal. One thing I cannot see is how the pedal pivot comes out? there is a threaded hole at the inboard end. Do I need a special tool or something to pull the shaft out? I cant punch it out from the brake pedal side as the steering column is in the way.

Any tips? 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

That's a tricky one. When I did mine I cursed at it for ages until I released the pedal push rod, and then it slotted in relatively easily. I think if you want to remove the whole pedal then it's done by undoing the six bolts that fix the M/C housing to the bulkhead under the bonnet and lifting out the whole assembly. You'll have to disconnect the brake lines though, which makes the whole task significantly more complicated.

This might sound stupid if you've been at it for while already, but have you tried putting the bush end in first and then levering in the other end with a screwdriver or mole grips? Darren
