Back from Namibia with a named Landy!
Hi guys,

‎3 weeks, 6000+km, & 1000 photos later we are safely back home after an awesome trip in Namibia!

We finally found a name for our landy - Orxy - courtesy of the Namibians' inability to spell correctly Smile

The landy behaved itself, no issues whatsoever except for a sagged rear coil (I think), no oil consumed, and no loss of coolant either.

Trip report with pics will be up sometime during the week, for now a picture of Orxy at Namutoni camp after a bit of mud-plugging driving from Waterberg National Park to Etosha:

Is that 2nd tank filler in the middle of 1st picture?
Can you share details (manufacturer, capacity, your review)?

Cheers!

Yep. 40L aux tank linked to main tank via a fuel pump (manual switch). It's made by Frontrunner in South Africa.

So far it has worked as intended, but I'm anticipating that at some point the fuel pump will fail, necessitating a replacement.

That being said, it shouldn't be too hard - disconnect old pump, unclamp hoses, put in new pump & clamp hoses & reconnect switch wires. The fuel pump sits in the rear wheelarch, so easily accessible for replacement. I will take a pic of the wheelarch this weekend & post.

It may be hard to see it under all the mud from Namibia Whistle --

It took a while but we finally finished our trip report from our April-May trip to Namibia. It's a bit long but worth it I think Smile

Naks,

Looks fantastic, your review has been invaluable to our planning Thumbs Up

We have been looking at a guided fly drive to Namibia in Oct, however the company wants 4,000Euro per person.

I like the idea of having a permanent guide in principle, but can't stomach the cost.

Do you know of any decent companies that hire kitted out Defenders, camping gear also?

I quite fancy going solo with the option of perhaps hiring local guides in Etosha, Walvis Bay etc

Thanks

Ian

Ian, to be honest, you do not really need a guide to tour Namibia - a Tracks4Africa map, a good GPS, a smile and a friendly attitude will get you very far - not to mention that most of the local speak/understand German as well Smile

As for rental Defenders, IIRC Britz rents them out, but you also get Kea and other rentals that do fully-kitted camper vans. If it's just you and the wife, I would recommend a camper van - they are fully kitted and you wont have to battle with a tent in the dark/cold/rain.

Just remember - Nam is a BEEEG place, so a minimum of 4 weeks if you want to see a bit of everything Thumbs Up --
