Early 2 door RR
Where would you look for one of these? eBay seems to be full of crud, either over restored and over priced or just over priced (yes it’s £60k but there’s rust on the tail gate and the binnacle wobbles on the dash...but these are easy fixes....).

Any suggestions where to find something half decent, matching numbers, circa 1974?

Thanks

I recently put a wanted ad on Instagram. My mate is putting an LSX into one...

So I know of a few as I got bombarded with leads. Are you on Instagram?

JLR classic Laughing
Sorry being sarcastic but it seems market availability and pricing seems to go hand in hand with good classic RR's. Maybe worth considering a later model, including the 5 speed long shift ones. Best of luck. m

JLR classic indeed. I’m sure they are stunning, but so is the pricing!

Agree about the pricing but I went to JLR classics and was deeply impressed. They also scrap a lot of parts which get renewed even if the old ones are fine. For example all old Jaguar wire wheels get destroyed(!). m

Unless you are really fixed on a 2 door, and they are nice, I had one for many years, I wouldn’t discount the early 4 door model. A bit more practical and prices are not so stratospheric...... yet.

Agree ^.

Land Rover went to 4 door for a reason:

They are better in many ways.

I suppose I can understand why you want one though....

I don’t really need practical! Slidey- that would be my preferred colour too. Some years ago I bought a 1978 2 door in that colour as a restoration project but it was too far gone to make economic sense, and I sold it on. Still kicking myself....

Lincoln Green. A very nice early RR colour.

Talk about kicking yourself, I sold the one in the photo (number 1,800 off the line) in 2015.

To rub salt into my wounds, the buyer sent that photo to me about a month after he got it home. Evil or Very Mad

Talking practical. I was looking for a 71 or 74 myself years ago when stumbling across a 84. I wasn't keen at the start but the idea of having the very same body shape (including grill, fuel cap, bumpers, rear number plate fixing) with a 5 speed longstick gearbox, cloth seats and a (working!) aircon won me over easily. m

Early rrc are beautiful, so long as it has the vertical grille both 2 & 4 door are stunning. I will be watching with envy. Good luck with the search.

I looked at an early russet brown two door, complete with flying salmon on the bonnet. Was lovely but needed too much work and went for too much money. Big Cry

I had my Tucson Blue 71 two door for 10 years and was my daily drive but with fuel prices going up and having to drive a lot more miles for work I traded it for a more “sensible” car. I saw it for sale again about 4 years ago at the Classic Car show Birmingham in the auction, it was in quite a state but still sold for over £5K.I spoke to the couple who bought it and said I had quite a lot of photos of the car from when I owned it and said I would send them copies if they wanted, oddly enough they showed no interest whatsoever Rolling Eyes
