You can get parts easily on line for most white goods, in the last few years I’ve replaced the drive belt on our washing machine, the latch on out tumble dryer and the element in our oven. Is this something more than that?

You've just made me think of the items I've repaired over the last few years. Parts mostly bought online.

Beko tumble dryer - heater element, button frame
Panasonic microwave - cooling fan - available as blades only for a few quid not as a complete fan+motor assembly Bow down
Miele washing machine (>10 years old) - replaced stuck relay
Neff dishwasher - heater element
Rangemaster oven - grill elements
Worcester Bosch boiler - oil feed pump solenoid coil
Dualit toaster - timer

Must be some others but can't remember at the mo. Also plenty of kids toys with loose wires/stuck buttons Laughing  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

I don’t think it’s so much a generational thing,

I grew up in a JAM family where my dad had his mortgage paid off, so arguably below the poverty line. Never went on holiday, aside from maybe a day trip to a museum, cinema or maybe a trip down to Leigh on sea.

I’ve never broken something out of anger despite nearly doing it a few times, to me it’s just a waste of a perfectly good item.

Same goes for food, tend not to waste a scrap.

Hell I like my tech but I’ve had the same phone for 2 years, and will probably keep it for at least another 2. (Iphone6s+).

Mind you I never hoard.

Some ways you sound like me, With keeping the tech for a while, and breaking stuff out of anger. I tend to keep things for a while too, if its not bust then why replace. I will keep a few things for spares for a little while, then it goes. I had some old computer parts for systems I had in the past. For diagnostic and replacement, I used to upgrade now and again so kept the odd few parts, I do have 3 retro pcs which is my hobby on the side now, as I used to wanting to get into all that ( server side) Anyway I had a look at the parts, and thought well these don't really work in my older stuff or my new system. So I donated them to a retro computer friend over a broad, Who has a computer museum which these parts could be used for. Thumbs Up Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
